This trip down was, at times, interesting, only because the area had recently been hit by a tornado and the tree damage was amazing to see. It rained pretty much the whole trip, but that didn't stop me from taking pictures! Beale St. mirrors Bourbon St. in New Orleans, and is not very exciting during the day. Not far from Beale St. is the Loraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed. The balcony and accompanying room have been preserved and there is a palpable feeling of sorrow surrounding the whole place.
On a lighter note, you can check out the King's house. Graceland should be dubbed "mini-Disney" in my opinion. There are enough things to do there that if you are a fanatic, you could spend days there! I did the tour in less than a day because at a certain point I became overwhelmed with Elvis. You can tour his home, the grounds, one of his planes, a museum of his stage outfits and records, as well as an extensive gift shop. You can also stay at the Heartbreak Hotel if you really want the full experience. If you can devote a day to this, I would say it's worth the money to see, at least once.
